Integration of an autonomous street lighting system in the rural area of Halba Akkar (INARA)

The Project Global objective is to Empower Halba Municipality to use renewable energy and improve the Quality of life of Citizens. Implementing the INARA action will address the citizens’ urban and energetic needs.
In this sense the project specific objectives will be to provided centralized (off- grid mode) source of street lighting and to improve local authorities’ capacities to provide the electricity supply needed in deprived rural areas.
The INARA project will be executed during thirty six months and Installation of up to 300 units of solar street lights is intended to provide citizens with solar street lights in addition to energy savings that shall be used for other community needs and Increasing working hours in the city.
The Direct Beneficiaries of the action are the citizens of Halba (27000 citizens) in addition to 588000 residents in Akkar including 110000 Syrian refugees (UNHCR August 2014) using Halba, the Capital of Akkar Governorate as their main hub and as a center for their mobility, social, and economic activity.

- Use renewbale energy as a pilot project in a country where the potential of solar energy source is important.
